Business Plan Workshop organized by SJIM

In today’s world, business students often prefer to decide their own future by starting their own ventures. While this might seem a daunting task, it is not impossible if you are equipped with the right tools. Therefore, in order to equip our students to be able to start their own ventures, St. Joseph’s Institute of Management (SJIM) organized a workshop for students on How to Write a Good Business Plan. This workshop was held on 30th September 2017.

Mr. Roshan D’Silva, an IIT Bombay graduate and founder of Tripvillas, Asia’s largest vacation rental website conducted this workshop for the students. Mr. Roshan, who has a vast experience in the field of entrepreneurship, is also a member of Kanara Entrepreneurs, a non-profit organization that mentors and helps catholic students, startups and SME entrepreneurs from the Kanara region.

The topic for all teams was, "Ideas to make Indian Cities Garbage-Free". All teams were told to prepare a simple 4-slide ppt that covered the overall idea/strategy, a marketing plan, how they will be profitable, and how they will scale up their company in the future. At the workshop, Mr. Roshan explained the need for business plans and the characteristics of a good business plan. He also expanded on the differences between good and great business plans, what different levels of investors look for in startups, and several other issues. All the teams presented their ideas for their startups within the realm of the topic. They were given clear and informative feedback on how to overcome the lacunae in their plans. Overall, the workshop was well-received by the students and proved to be an excellent learning experience for SJIM’s budding entrepreneurs!
