On 7th July 2025, students of the 2nd-year PGDM program at St. Joseph’s Institute of Management (SJIM) attended an engaging session titled “AI Essentials for Business,” delivered by Ms. Vijaya Ghosh—an industry leader in AI & Analytics with over 25 years of experience, formerly Managing Director at Accenture’s Consumer Business Group.
During the one-hour session, Ms. Ghosh explained how AI is fundamentally driven by probability and prediction, making it both powerful and inherently uncertain. She highlighted the explosive growth of AI platforms like ChatGPT, the transformation of data beyond mere numbers into formats like video and audio, and the widespread adoption of AI by 77% of companies worldwide—including public sector banks in India.
A thought-provoking part of the talk was her comparison of AI with human intelligence, noting how Gemini AI outscored an IIT topper on an assessment, yet produced a biased list of U.S. Presidents—all of whom it incorrectly identified as Black. This example underscored the crucial need for ethical oversight.
