The guest lecture was conducted with an objective to provide practical exposure to the students opted for Commercial Banking as their Elective subject. The lecture was conducted by Mr. Zakhir Ulla, National Manager of Internet and Mobile Banking from Ujjivan Small Finance Bank and was also accompanied by Mr. Martin Pampilly, Head of Service Quality and Operations who has over 13 years of retail banking experience with ANZ Grindlays Bank, Bank Muscat, and Centurion Bank, on the topic “Digital Branchless Banking”.

Mr. Zubair Ulla started off by listing out the various benefits of Online Banking and Physical Bank Branches and also the problems faced by both platforms. He then highlighted how Fintech, Data and Automation, Customer Expectation, Demographics and Government Regulators are the building blocks of Digital Banking. He also touched upon how the Reserve Bank of India has taken various initiatives to help India move towards a cashless economy. He concluded his lecture by stating that efficient staff training and migrating customer interaction to self service mode are some of the steps banks should adopt to in the future to keep up with the emerging trends.

Mr. Martin Pampilly, Head of Service Quality and Operations at Ujjivvan Small Finance Bank wound up the session with an interactive discussion on the future of banking in terms of environmental sustainability, paperless economy and the various employment opportunities that will emerge through changing market needs.
