ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Q. Is there a separate entrance exam to join SJIM?
Ans: No. Prospective students need to submit any of the CAT, XAT, or MAT scores. We also
accept GMAT, ATMA, and CMAT scores instead.
Q. Is it compulsory to submit my entrance exam scores in my application?
Ans: Yes, you are required to submit your common entrance exam scores as part of your
application.
Q. Can I apply if I have not yet taken the MAT?
Ans: If you have not yet taken any entrance exam, you may still apply. If you are offered
admission, you must take your MAT in February or May and obtain a score above 550.
Q. What is the cut-off score for the MAT?
Ans: You need to score a minimum of 550 in the MAT.
Q. What is the cut-off score for my under-graduate degree?
Ans: The cut-off is 50% aggregated marks during each year of your under-graduate studies.
Q. What is the cut-off score for the CAT, XAT, CMAT, GMAT, etc?
Ans: There is no fixed cut-off for these exams. However, you are expected to perform well in
these because a candidate with a higher score will be given preference.
Q. What can I do if my MAT scores are below the cut-off?
Ans: If your MAT scores are below the cut-off, you can take the MAT exam again to improve
your score. The MAT is conducted four times a year, so you have several opportunities to
improve your score.
Q. I have written many entrance exams like CAT, MAT, XAT. Which score should I enter
in the application form? Which score will you consider for admission?
Ans: Please enter all the scores. This will help us judge consistency in your academic
performance. Your best score across the different exams will be considered.
Q. I have the scores of entrance exam taken in the last year. Can I apply with those scores?
Ans: No. You have to apply with the recent entrance scores.
Q. If I have done BSc or BA or BE, can I apply? How difficult will this course be for me if I am not from a business or commerce background?
Ans: Yes, you can apply irrespective of your background. In fact, we encourage students from diverse educational backgrounds to apply. Please remember that irrespective of your stream of under-graduate studies, you should have scored at least 60% aggregated marks during each year of your under-graduate studies. The course work in the PGDM program is at the post-graduate level. Therefore, the course material will be equally difficult or easy for students from all backgrounds.
Q. What are the eligibility criteria?

Q. I am in the final year of my studies, can I apply?
Ans: You can apply. But if you are selected, you must clear all your exams before the date of
joining.
Q. What if I have a backlog that I have not yet cleared?
Ans: You can still apply for admission, but you must clearly mention the backlog details on your
application form and during the personal interview. You will also have to clear the backlog
before you start your program at SJIM.
Q. Is there any cut-off for 10 th and 12 th standard marks?
Ans: Admission into the PGDM program is dependent on your marks in your under-graduate
studies and on your common test scores (like MAT, CAT, etc). But good performance in your
10 th and 12 th helps to demonstrate consistent academic performance.

Q. If I satisfy all the eligibility criteria, will I be given admission?
Ans: Admission into the PGDM program depends on several factors. You must meet the
eligibility criteria and additionally, do well in your written essay and personal interview rounds.
Q. What are my chances of admission?
Ans: SJIM prides itself on running a prestigious PGDM program. If you have a good entrance
exam score, consistent academic performance above 60%, and you perform well in your
interview, then you have a good chance of admission to SJIM.
Q. Is work experience compulsory? What are my chances of admission if I do not have
work experience?
Ans: Work experience is not compulsory, but it is preferable. Many of our students do not have
any work experience before joining. Your academic performance and your personal interview
will be the primary determinants for your admission.
ABOUT SJIM AND THE PGDM PROGRAM
Q. Is SJIM affiliated to any university?
Ans: St. Joseph’s Institute of Management (SJIM) is an autonomous institute that has been
approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Your PGDM degree will
be awarded by SJIM, and is approved by the AICTE.
Q. Are SJIM and SJCBA the same institute?
Ans: St. Joseph’s Institute of Management (SJIM) was formerly called St. Joseph’s College of
Business Administration (SJCBA). They are the same institute.
Q. Do you offer a PGDM or a MBA? What is the difference?
Ans: We offer a Post Graduate Diploma in Management or PGDM. In India, a PGDM and a
MBA are both two-year full-time programs and are thus equivalent to each other. While an MBA
is granted by a university or a college affiliated to a university, a PGDM is granted by institutes.
The PGDM program at SJIM has been approved by the All India Council for Technical
Education (AICTE) and it has given equivalence status of MBA.
Q. Which courses are offered at SJIM?

Q. Is the PGDM program a day program or an evening program?
Ans: The PGDM program is a two-year full-time day program.
Q. Can I specialize in my PGDM?
Ans: Yes. We have a dual-specialization at SJIM. You can choose two among four streams of
specialization – Finance, Human Resources, Marketing and Operations.
Q. How good are the placements at SJIM? What is the average package?
Ans: SJIM has an excellent placement record for the last 20 years. Many of the top, reputed

Q. Is there internship during the program? Is it mandatory?
Ans: All students have to do a two-month internship after the completion of third trimester in the
month of April and May.
Q. Does the college provide internships?
Ans: Finding internship is primarily student’s responsibility. Whenever the college receives
internship requirements from the companies, students may apply for the same.
Q. What is the duration of the PGDM program? How many years is the PGDM program?
Ans: The PGDM program is a 2-year full-time program approved by the AICTE.
Q. What are the college timings?
Ans: Classes in the college are usually held between 8:30am and 5:00pm, from Mondays to
Saturdays. However, due to events or scheduling of elective courses or extra classes, these
timings can vary.
Q. Where is the college located? How do I get to the college?
Ans: SJIM is located in the heart of Bangalore, just off MG Road. We are reachable by private
transport (there is ample basement parking for all students and visitors), bus (brigade road stop),

Q. Is there any dress code?
Ans: Since you are joining a post-graduate course in management to become a future manager in
an organization, it is expected that you will dress appropriately.
Q. Do the faculty have good experience? How qualified are the faculty?
Ans: SJIM has an excellent faculty body. All faculty have several years of experience and most

Q. Does SJIM have a hostel for boys/girls?
Ans: Yes, SJIM has hostel facilities for both and girls. A new hostel for girls is constructed in the

Q. What are the hostel fees?
Ans: You require about Rs 80,000 per year, which includes-boarding and mess fees.
Q. Does the college conduct international immersion programs?
Ans: Yes. The college conducts international immersion programs mostly in the month of
June/July. . It is optional. Those who wish to go have to pay for the cost of the program.
Q. How does SJIM compare with other business schools in India?
Ans: SJIM is one of the prestigious business schools of India, and is the oldest business school in
Karnataka. SJIM was ranked in the Top-100 Management Schools in the NIRF Rankings, and
was one among only four business schools in Bangalore to be ranked by the NIRF. It has been
rated A++ by Business India.
FEES AND SCHOLARSHIPS
Q. What is the fees for the PGDM program?
Ans: The fees for the 2019-21 batch is Rs.3.9 lakh per year for students from Karnataka and
Rs.4.0 lakh per year for students from outside Karnataka. These fees can be paid in installments.

Q. Can I get refund of the fees?
Ans: Fees once paid will not be refunded even in the case of a student’s failure / termination or
withdrawal from the programme, after commencement of the programme. SJIM follows AICTE
refund policy with respect to candidates withdrawing from the programme before
commencement of the programme.
Q. Does the college offer any scholarships?
Ans: Yes, SJIM offers several scholarships to students. These include General Merit
Scholarships, Merit-cum-Means Scholarships, and Fee waiver to economically weaker students.
DATES AND TIMELINES
Q. When can I start applying?
Ans: Applications open on 1 st November. You can apply by clicking

Q. Till when are admissions open?
Ans: Depending on several criteria, SJIM may or may not hold multiple rounds of admission.
Usually, applications for the first round of admission close in February, while applications for

Q. Can I defer my admission by a year?
Ans: If you are admitted into the program at SJIM, you are expected to start the program in the
same year.
Q. When does the PGDM course start?
Ans: Every year, PGDM classes begin in the first week of June. The exact date will be informed
during the admission.
ADMISSION PROCESS
Q. What details do I need to submit as part of my application?
Ans: SJIM uses an online application system. As a part of your application, you will need to
provide details related to your background, your past education, your achievements, and so on.

Q. Do I need to upload any documents?
Ans: Yes, you need to upload the following documents as a part of your application - 10 th and
12 th marks cards, Degree marks cards of all semesters, Entrance exam score card, Work

Q. Can I send my documents by post?
Ans: Yes, you can send in your documents by post instead of uploading them. You can find the

Q. Are there admission interview centers outside Bangalore?
Ans: No. All admission interviews are conducted in the campus itself.
Q. Can I give interview via Skype?
Ans: The college may offer Skype interview facility to the deserving students from North India.
If so, it will be announced in the website. Students from South India have to come to the campus
for the personal interview.
