Inauguration of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Program 2021


A key metric of a successful management institute is the quality of impactful research it accomplishes to fulfill the unmet needs of the society. The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program in collaboration with University of Mysore was formally inaugurated on September 25, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Institute of Management. The occasion started with a welcome note by our respected Director, Rev. Dr. Manoj D’Souza SJ who highlighted the significance of impactful research. He emphasized on the process of connecting our mission with the vision to produce impactful research that contributes towards the society and the environment. This was followed by handing over the appointment letters to the research scholars.

Rev.Fr Oswald A J Mascarenhas aka Father Ozzie, as he is lovingly called by everyone (Ex-JRD Tata Chair Professor of Business Ethics at XLRI) also addressed the newly joined eight budding research scholars. He shared his thoughts on the usefulness of conducting discovery research which starts with one’s ‘imagination and curiosity’. He also stressed on the significance of striving for objective truth to solve the problems prevalent in the society.

Our respected Dean, Dr. A.R. Rajagopalan also graced the occasion with his benign presence. Later, Dr. Anantharaman, the Provost, briefed the research scholars on the basic guidelines concerning research followed by details of the course work. He also conveyed his sincere thanks to Mr. Chandrakant Pattar (Public Relations Officer) who acted as a liaison to get this program started. Five distinguished faculty members of the institute have been approved by the University of Mysore to mentor the research scholars. These include Dr. Avil Saldanha, Dr. Anup Krishnamurthy, Dr. Thomason Rajan for Marketing Domain; Dr. Maria Immanuvel for Finance domain and Dr. Caren Rodrigues for Human Resources Domain.

The session concluded with a brief introduction by all the research scholars following a small talk among them and their respective guides. This was followed by a group photograph and the occasion ended with a tasty and refreshing treat.
