Family Business – Success and Failure: Some Lessons from Research
On 10 th September 2019, Dr. Anand Anandalingam spoke to the students of SJIM on the topic of Family Businesses. He elucidated on the reasons for success and failure based on the research work he had done at Imperial College (London). His talk was focused towards those planning to join their own family business, or those students who would be starting their entrepreneurships soon. However, as he explained, the ideas were equally applicable to other businesses as well.

Dr. Anand is currently the Ralph J. Tyser Professor of Management Science at the University of Maryland. He was formerly the dean of both the Imperial College Business School at Imperial College London and the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland. With a bachelors from Cambridge and a PhD from Harvard, he is one of the most erudite guest lecturers to visit SJIM this year.
